Training
Understanding and communicating about market fundamentals, risk-management tools (and their limitations), the Federal Order system, industry structure, and dairy policy is our forte. An unusual combination of complexity and vagueness can sometimes make working in the dairy world a harrowing experience – often resulting in second-guessing and uncertainty among even the most experienced procurement professionals. We conduct training sessions for experienced procurement professionals new to dairy as well as other leaders throughout various organizations. Those training sessions cover a number of topics, including:
Dairy 101, Dairy 201, Dairy 301
This series of courses is designed to provide a general dairy industry overview through three progressive sessions.
Dairy 101 introduces participants to dairy markets and policy; dairy product supply and demand; market-fundamentals, and farm-side economics.
Dairy 201 builds on the principles of Dairy 101 but is tailored and directed to the clients needs and business. Dairy 201 delves into price risk management, as well as reviews the many specific product categories, such as cheese, butter, and whey, covering pricing, manufacturers, and trends.
Dairy 301 takes things to a more granular level, focusing on specific risk-management strategies that relate to the client's needs as well as an understanding of specific product formulations, production processes, and economics.
Risk Management Training
Sessions are customized to meet the needs of our clients. In some cases, companies who've asked us for Dairy 101 training have made it a cross-functional activity -- inviting staff from marketing, finance and management. This has allowed procurement staff to educate their entire team about the ins and outs of the commodity markets in general and dairy markets specifically, providing a look at why they are often so difficult to predict.
Risk management training educates personnel across relevant departments about the tools commonly used to mitigate price risk, including futures, options and over-the-counter instruments.
