May Cold Storage

According to the USDA/NASS Cold Storage Report, published at 2:00pm CT today:

                                 

May 31 AMERICAN-TYPE CHEESE stocks @ 617.2 million pounds, up 5.3% year-over-year and up 1.3% versus April 2010 (that compares to an average April-to-May increase of 2.7% over the previous five years).

 

April 30  TOTAL CHEESE stocks @ 1,018.7 million pounds, up 5.0% year-over-year and up 1.0% versus April 2010 (that compares to an average April-to-May increase of 3.0% over the previous five years).

 

April 30  BUTTER stocks @ 211.5 million pounds, down 16.5% year-over-year and up 2.5% versus April 2010 (that compares to an average April-to-May increase of 9.1% over the previous five years).

According to the USDA/NASS Milk Production Report, released at 2:00pm CT today:

 

May 50-state MILK PRODUCTION @ 16.982 billion pounds, up 1.1% versus May 2009 levels. 

 

May 23-state MILK PRODUCTION @ 15.741 billion pounds, up 1.3% versus May 2009 levels. 

 

 

May 50-state COWS @ 9,103,000 head, down 171,000 head over May 2009 levels and up  4,000 head from the April 2010 estimate (the April estimate was revised up 3,000 head, making for a 7,000 head report-to-report change)

 

May 23-state COWS @ 8,332,000 head, down 143,000 head over May 2009 levels and up  4,000 head from the April 2010 estimate (the April estimate was revised up 3,000 head, making for a 7,000 head report-to-report change)
